Serving with Score in the Dominican Republic was a life changing experience. Score is a unique organization that ministers to the people of the Dominican Republic by establishing ongoing relationships with villages and outreach organizations. Our group was able to serve in several capacities during our 10 day trip. We spent 2 days working at Emmanuel House, a school that serves underprivileged children. We cleared a playground area, did some demolition and worked on the construction of an addition. Our group then served at Lily House, a mission serving women rescued from prostitution. The team at Lily House takes women and their children in and teaches them skills such as baking, jewelry making and cosmetology so they can make a better future for themselves. In addition to the manual labor we provided, our group was able to bless a daycare center as well as an entire village with food. We visited several sugarcane villages where the poverty level was so great that there is little or no access to clean water and very little food to go around. The people in these villages also lack proper medical care. Spending time with these people, gifting them with food and supplies, and sharing the love of God with them is something I will never forget. It has changed my priorities and my perspective forever. The people of the Dominican Republic are some of the most beautiful people I have ever known and I cannot wait to go there again! My family and I are already planning for another mission trip. Giving back has always been an important part of how I have lived my life but my drive to give and serve has hit a whole new level after this trip!!
