Whitney Hegseth: Color for Kindness: Suicide Prevention and Awareness Color Walk/Run Sponsored by Kevin's Legacy Foundation

My community commitment lives on through many different organizations as I am a member of the League of Ridiculous, Beer by Bike Brigade, The Giving Table and I am a Board Member for Kevin’s Legacy Foundation. Kevin’s Legacy Foundation is my largest area of contribution and I have chosen this organization and event as my Community Commitment. This is because they both are raising awareness for mental health, suicide prevention, and creating a bully-free community.  This cause is especially close to my heart because I lost my best friend in high school to suicide. Everything I do in this area is in honor of Jesse Dillion Gullickson. I think it is so important to break the stigma of mental health so everyone feels comfortable talking about it and having difficult conversations around mental health. No one is ever alone in their feelings and many people struggle with mental health. This organization understands these components and works diligently to provide resources and avenues for people to learn, advocate, and grow themselves, their mental health knowledge, and their own well-being.

The event itself is called: Color for Kindness and it is a 5K Run/Walk through picturesque Halfway Creek Park held the second Saturday in October. You will pass through many color stations where you will get colored cornstarch rained upon you in this non-competitive race. You can run, walk, and bring the whole family. Raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.
